Barnes & Noble to Shutter One-Third of Stores Over the Next 10 Years

Barnes & Noble has put up an excellent fight over the past few years against the rising tide of digital competitors like the iPad, Kindle Fire, etc., but it would seem that the bookseller has still come up a bit short, as the The Wall Street Journal reports that the company has plans to shut down nearly 20 stores per year over the course of the next decade. Just last week, we learned that Barnes & Noble had a rough holiday sales season with a 10.9 percent sales decrease from the previous year's holiday season. ...

Nook Media, the joint partnership between Barnes & Noble and Microsoft, is appealing to scrapbookers and/or Pinterest users with a holiday video, Dear Santa, that promotes the Nook Catalog and Nook Scrapbook features on its Nook HD and HD+ devices. Barnes & Noble to Introduce New Video Service for Nook Devices

Barnes & Noble said on Tuesday it would introduce a new video store for its Nook products this fall, the latest expansion of the bookseller's digital content. The service will allow customers to stream and download movies and television shows for a fee onto TV's and mobile devices, while storing the content in the Nook cloud. The video catalog includes HBO shows, like "Game of Thrones" and "True Blood," and movies including "The Artist" and "Toy Story 3."
