Zappos.com and Bill Me Later Partner for Promotion to Honor Women

July 7, 2009

Timonium, Md. – July 7, 2009 – It is not news that today’s women are busier than ever. In order to recognize and reward these Household CEOs, Bill Me Later Inc. and Zappos.com, have launched a nationwide contest to hear the Household CEOs tell what it takes to “fill their shoes.” The winner will be announced on August 10th and will receive a $2,500 shopping spree sponsored by Bill Me Later and Zappos.com.

A new survey commissioned by Bill Me Later and Zappos.com of more than 600 women around the country focusing on career, lifestyle, and parenting topics provides a revealing snapshot of the life of the modern woman: While nearly 70% work outside the home, a clear majority still have primary responsibility for a range of everyday tasks, from cooking to the kids’ homework, in addition to having primary responsibility for retirement planning and car care.  A majority of women ranked the mobile phone as more important than significant others in managing both their household and professional lives.  For more results from the survey, please click here.

The respondents also reported, when asked who in the household is most responsible for decisions in particular areas, that women ‘lead’ in these by a wide margin:

  • Household: 67.04%
  • Cooking: 62.34%
  • Kid’s Homework:  55.18%
  • Family Social Life:  50.85%

In other areas it’s not quite a majority, but many women are still most responsible:

  • Family Vacations: 45.39%
  • Kid’s Education: 43.88%
  • Retirement Planning: 37.48%
  • Car Care: 32.39%

Importantly, 31.35% of survey participants ranked their mobile phone/PDA as most important in helping them manage both household and professional responsibilities. The mobile phone outranks their significant other, social networking tools and hired help, aka nannies, maids, housekeepers, etc.

Do you know a great Household CEO? Are you a great Household CEO yourself? Join the fun: Candidates are encouraged to submit a 1-3-minute video describing what it takes to fill their shoes—the pressures, the chores, the daily ups and downs, the ultimate rewards, along with the tips and tools, skills and technologies that help get the job done. Videos will be featured on the YouTube channel www.youtube.com/HHCEOs.

Bill Me Later and Zappos are taking their Household CEO search to BlogHer (Booth #115) in Chicago, July 23-25. If you are attending BlogHer and are interested in entering or getting more information on the campaign please contact Ashley Carter, Access Communications for Bill Me Later, at 917.522.3529 or acarter@accesspr.com to arrange an interview.
